It’s about time… no seriously it is…..

Recently I found one of these scratch off tickets from a fast food chain that entitled me to a free large drink. I had misplaced this ticket and by the time I relocated it, the contest was over and the ticket was no good. Bummer. That was for my Diet Coke… imagine if missing out meant passing up a great career opportunity.
It happens – more than you may realize…
As a recruiter, I use all the tools in my arsenal. Our internal databases, LinkedIn, email, and good ole fashioned calls. Reaching the right candidates isn’t the issue – getting a timely response can be. We strive to work on “hot” jobs, ones where the client will hire right away for the ideal candidate. So, when I reach out to a candidate, there usually is a ticking clock on a response.
What does this mean to you?
Simple – it means working with a recruiter requires an open line of communication and ample availability. With that in mind, some simple tips to help you potentially land that next great career opportunity:
  • Have an email address the either is only used for job opportunities or if it is a general personal email address, be sure to clean it out often – and check in your junk folders. If you are checking your email daily, you will be on top of those latest jobs.
  • Check your voice mails often – and clean out the old messages. We can’t leave you a voicemail if there isn’t room.
  • Keep your LinkedIn profile updated, and ideally check it once a day. You can even put the app right on your phone, so you won’t miss any messages.
  • Bonus tip: Be sure to respond to any emails, messages or voice mails from a recruiter – even if you are not interested. You will be looking one day and want to build that relationship, and the best way to maintain it is to start when they reach out.
Staying connected will ensure you stay on top of those great job opportunities and won’t let that great one slip away.
